Frequently Asked Questions

What's a virtual event?

What is a virtual event?

Due to limits on mass gatherings, this year’s Step Up for Mental Health run/walk will be a virtual event.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Choose your own starting line, whether that’s a treadmill or an outdoor route in your community
  2. Complete your race distance (5K or 10K) between Oct. 7-12
  3. Submit your time and receive your medal in the mail. (All registered participants will receive an email with detailed upload instructions closer to the event.)
Registration information

My child is 5-and-under. Do I have to register them even though their participation is free?

No. Your 5-and-under children are welcome to join you on the course and there’s no need to register them.

Can I register a student as an adult to receive the Step Up training shirt?

Yes. Registrants in the student (ages 6-18) category receive a Step Up backpack and custom medal for their $25 entry fee. However, students are welcome to register at the adult level to receive the Step Up training shirt and Step Up hoodie in addition to the backpack and medal.

Please note that we do not carry youth sizes. For shirts, sizes start at XS for the female cut and S for the unisex version. For hoodies, the smallest size is XS unisex (fits similar to youth XL).

Can I register as a group or team?

We don’t have an official team category but we definitely encourage groups to participate. On the registration page, one person can sign up multiple people (provided you know birthdates, addresses, etc.) and make one payment. You can also show your team spirit by getting the same custom message (12-character limit) on your race bibs. This option is available on the registration form.

How do I get my swag?

Your swag package will be available for drive-through pickup at set dates throughout the summer. Watch your email for dates and times.

If you live outside a 40-km radius, your swag will be mailed to you after July 6.

Medals will be mailed to all registered participants who submit their finish times through Race Roster between Oct. 7-12.

How do I upload my time for the virtual event?

All registered participants will receive an email with detailed instructions closer to the event.

Can I get a refund?

Registrations made after June 16 are non-refundable. If you registered prior to June 16 and you don’t want to participate in the virtual event, we offer the following options:

Request a refund
  1. We are happy to offer a full refund provided that you have not already picked up your race shirt.
  2. If you have already picked up your race shirt, we cannot offer a refund but you will still receive the rest of your swag (bunnyhug and backpack) even if you don’t participate in the virtual event.
  3. The deadline to request a refund is June 30, 2020. To request a refund, please email your name and confirmation number to stepup@cameco.com.
  4. Please note that deferring your registration to a future Step Up event is not an option.
OR
Transfer Your Registration
  1. If you do not wish to participate in the virtual event, you can transfer your registration to someone else. Please note that if you have already picked up your race shirt, the transferee will not receive a shirt unless you send it to them. They will still receive the rest of the swag (bunnyhug and backpack) which will be available for drive-through pickup June 22-23 as noted above. Registrants who live outside a 40-km radius of Saskatoon will have their swag mailed to them.
  2. To request a transfer, please email your name and confirmation number, plus the transferee’s email address, to stepup@cameco.com.

I don’t live in Saskatoon. Can I still register?

Yes. The 2020 run/walk is a virtual event so we encourage you to participate in your home community and submit your results according to instructions that will be emailed to all registered participants. Please note that effective Aug. 1, swag mailouts will be limited to addresses within Canada and the continental US.

Other ways to support Step Up

How can I support Step Up for Mental Health if I’m not participating in the event?

We appreciate your interest in making a difference for mental health. By request, we’ve added donation and pledge options to the event registration page. Donations of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt from the Saskatoon Community Foundation.

How do I set up my pledge page?

If you’re running or walking and would like to set up your pledge page, please see this helpful tutorial.

Does Cameco match donations and pledges?

No. Cameco matches the registration fees for all participants in the 5K/10K run/walk but additional donations and pledges are not matched.

Can I volunteer?

Yes! Yes! We'll be issuing a public call for volunteers, so follow Cameco's social media accounts (See Communications information below) to make sure you don't miss it.

Money raised

Where does the money go?

All money raised through Step Up for Mental Health supports the Cameco Fund for Mental Health established through the Saskatoon Community Foundation. These funds are disbursed annually to organizations undertaking projects that promote or support mental health. Applications for funding are adjudicated by a panel that includes mental health professionals, as well as representatives from Cameco, the Saskatoon Community Foundation and the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

Donations of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt from the Saskatoon Community Foundation. Please note that all registration fees for the 5K/10K run/walk are matched by Cameco, but donations and pledges are not matched.
